Keeping Children safe in Education
St Stephen’s RC Primary School is passionate about and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and visitors to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school.
We have measures in place to protect all pupils in school including:
- All visitors to school must report to the school office, sign in and display their visitor badge. They must bring photo ID with them and if they are intending to work directly with children they must bring their DBS clearance too.
- On arrival visitors will be provided with a colour coordinated lanyard – red for those who are to be escorted at all times and green for those who are DBS cleared and safe to work with children unsupervised.
- Risk assessments take place for activities that take place both in and out of the school. Regular Health and Safety checks and Fire Risk assessments carried out. All staff receive safeguarding training which is renewed at regular intervals.
What to do if you have concerns
If there is a concern about the welfare of a child, school staff will report this to one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads.
This may result in a referral to Children and Family Services. If a child makes a disclosure about physical or sexual abuse, our duty of care will always be to the child.
