Year 3 is the first step on the children’s learning journey in KS2. Therefore, you may find some differences to KS1 e,g, lunch times are later, there is no afternoon break and the children are expected to have a greater level of independence. Reading books will be changed weekly upon completion of the Accelerated Reader Quiz. Please ensure your child reads every night and that their reading diaries are signed by an adult.

In Year 3, the children are also fortunate to enjoy weekly swimming lessons. These will take place on a Friday afternoon for a full term – 3LW will have their swimming lesson in the Autumn and 3CS/DH’s lessons will be in the Spring. The class which is swimming has one PE session on a Friday, whilst the other class has PE on both Thursday and Friday.

All of the children have made an excellent start to the school year and we are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead.

More information will be added to the website as it becomes available.

Mrs Williams, Mrs Shuttleworth and Miss Hill.

Important Information

  • Snack: Children do not need to bring in weekly snack money. The children can bring in a healthy snack (fruit, vegetables).
  • Reading: The children will be reading once a week with their class teacher and at least once a week during Guided Reading sessions. The children should be reading each night at home and their reading journals should be completed by an adult.
  • Homework: Homework will be given out on a Friday and the children will need to return this to school by Wednesday. Usually, homework will consist of Arithmetic, Handwriting and Spelling. Occasionally, children may be asked to complete short projects. Tasks set for homework will relate to what children have covered in class and the children should be encouraged to complete these tasks independently
  • Extra Curricular Opportunities: Over the course of the year, there will be a range of after school clubs for the children to attend. Letters about these clubs will be sent out prior to the club starting.
  • Mrs Williams, Miss Hill and Mrs Shuttleworth are looking forward to having an exciting year with the children!  Class teachers will update the Year 3 webpage regularly so make sure you keep checking to see our fantastic work!
